A new Family and Community Centre was constructed as a part of a new residential development in Cranbourne West. Advent was involved in the structural and civil engineering design of the project.
The structural elements included designing the raft slab, steel frame to support the architectural light-weight roof, non-vibrating equipment platform and timber stud walls. The civil design included water sensitive urban design features with rainwater tanks and gardens which were integrated with the hard and soft landscape elements of the project.
The project included a challenging architecturally designed “origami shaped” roof. Advent developed an innovative solution by providing universal beams to follow the roof profile.
Another unique aspect of the project included special bracing above the windows that were designed as portal frames with the main columns. These elements were designed to resist lateral loads.
In order to optimize beam sizes and reduce redundant elements, Advent used advanced 3-dimensional modelling techniques.
