Advent was engaged to provide the structural design for this mixed-use development in Strathmore. The structural design included a piled retention system to create the basement, a post-tensioned concrete transfer slab and lightweight sandwich panelled walls (AFS walls), with conventional slabs for the upper floors.
The main challenge was modifying the design from conventional columns to AFS walls during the construction phase to help the builder complete the project on time. This modification required re-designing the foundation system.
Advent’s innovative approach for providing a transfer slab on first floor allowed the ground floor to be constructed with a conventional band beam and Bondek slab system, which reduced the amount of conventional formwork. By using this approach, along with the AFS walls for the first and second floors, Advent provided a cost savings to the client.
